Governor speaks out about AYP, graduation rates

ATLANTA - Gov. Sonny Perdue released the statement following the release of Adequate Yearly Progress data and graduation rates:
"I am extremely pleased with the significant progress our schools and students are showing in graduation rates. As the AYP standards continue to rise, we are also increasing the rigor of the curriculum which will result in our students performing better in the classroom and being more prepared to face the world upon graduation," Perdue said. "Judging from past experience, I am confident the schools that came up just short of meeting AYP will redouble their efforts and work hard to meet the standards next year. I will continue to work closely with Superintendent Cox to make sure we are doing everything we can to promote student performance and achievement. I will never apologize for asking more of our schools and our students as we strive to make Georgia globally competitive - anything less is unacceptable."
