Long 4-H'er grows 2nd biggest melon

A Long County 4-H’er took second place in the 2017 4-H Watermelon Growing Contest.

Sponsored by the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association and Georgia Watermelon Association, the contest takes place during the watermelon season and must be weighed in by Aug. 4.

Long County’s Andrew Groover took on the challenge and was able to grow a 122.1 pound Carolina cross. Second place won him $50.
