The art program at Long County High School received a $659 grant Oct. 19 from the Georgia Council of the Arts.

The LCHS art program, taught by Melissa Lambert, will use the money for community-based projects. In the past, students have created murals, competed in art contests and put on an end-of-year art show at Coastal Manor Nursing Home.

The Council said there were more than 100 applicants for its Vibrant Communities grants this year. It said it chose Long County High’s art program because of the plan to get out within the community to inspire others.
