Kenisha Mobley, a marketing management student at Savannah Technical College, was named college winner of the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership at the selection committee meeting on March 19.
The meeting was held at the college’s Technology Campus in Pooler.
Mobley, 22, is the daughter of Tyrone and Sebrina Gordon of Savannah and Kenneth Mobley of Savannah.  She will receive a scholarship from the Student Activities Council, and an all expenses paid trip to Atlanta where, for three days, she will compete with students from 38 other technical colleges and divisions in Georgia for the title of State GOAL Winner, the GOAL medallion, and a new automobile as the grand prize.
“It’s an honor to be recognized as a leader and receive the GOAL award for Savannah Tech.” Mobley said. She also added how excited she is to go to Atlanta to compete against other college winners for the title of State GOAL Winner.
“I’m hoping to bring it home!” she said.
The four finalists were interviewed by a selection committee made up of five leaders from business, education and industry. This year’s committee included Julie Gerbsch, Savannah-Chatham school board member; Daisy Pleasant Jones, writer/reporter for the Coastal Courier; Ken Boyd, vice president of economic development for Savannah Tech; Jennifer Abshire, owner of Abshire Public Relations and STC Foundation Board member; and Donald Lovette, Liberty County commissioner and foundation board member.
“The committee’s task is not an easy one,” Boyd said. “All of these students are exceptional individuals or they would not have been nominated. The GOAL program is an excellent means of recognizing the outstanding adults enrolled in the state’s technical colleges, and everyone appreciated the opportunity to be involved in the selection process.  The most challenging aspect is selecting one winner to represent the college since all of the finalists were exemplary students.”
The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education sponsors GOAL statewide.  At the college-level, the program is sponsored by the STC Student Activities Council and coordinated by Candice Temple (Liberty Campus) and Christina Seeger (Savannah Campus).
GOAL’s objective, according to Temple, is to reward excellence among the more than 155,000 students studying in the technical college system of Georgia. GOAL was the first statewide program in the nation to honor excellence among technical students at the postsecondary level.
In addition to Mobley, the three other students recognized for their achievement, character and leadership were Stacy Benaske of Ludowici, Shcoby Griffin of Hinesville and Jameel Riley of Savannah. They are all studying marketing management.
