Smiley names teacher, aide of year

LUDOWICI — Jenny Futch was recently named teacher of the year at Smiley Elementary.
Through her 11 years in the Long County system, she has taught pre-kindergarten and kindergarten.  
“One thing about Mrs. Futch is that she always has a smile on her face.  She enjoys teaching and enjoys the kids. Parents, students and teachers love her,” said Mrs. Carryl, kindergarten lead teacher.
Futch is a Liberty County native, but currently lives in Long County.  She is married to Phil Futch.  They have four boys, Jeremy, Blake, Parker and Carson. During her spare time, Futch enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Armstrong University and recently completed a master’s in instructional technology from Troy State University in Alabama.
Cynthis Doomes was named the paraprofessional of the year at Smiley. She has been a teacher’s aide for 26 years, working in kindergarten through ninth grades.   
“She has the experience and knowledge of a teacher,”  Principal David Edwards said.  “She is very dedicated and hardworking.”
Doomes has lived in Long County all of her life. She has five children and six grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and sewing.
