Universities honor area students

Several area students have been named to schools' academic honor lists and graduated:

STATESBORO — Georgia Southern University recently recognized more than 200 students for excellence in academics on the 2015 summer semester dean’s list. To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must have at least a 3.5 GPA and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.

The following local students made the dean’s list: Delesha Greene of Hinesville, Christopher Robins of Hinesville, Brent Sessions of Hinesville, Ashlyn Steverson of Midway and Ryan Wells of Hinesville.

Scholarship at Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga. — Jakaria Fleming, of Hinesville, received the following scholarships from Georgia Southwestern State University for the 2015-16 academic year: FDT Wheatley Leadership Scholarship and FDT Wheatley Scholar Fleming was one of nearly 350 scholarship recipients.

Valdosta graduates

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University announced that 522 students completed the requirements of their respective academic programs during the summer semester. Among the graduates are Charvondra Watson of Hinesville, who received a Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary studies, and Richard Welch of Midway, who received a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice.

Troy graduates

TROY, Ala. — Troy University recognized students who completed the requirements for graduation during Term 1 of the 2015-16 academic year.

Local residents who graduated include: Jonathan Halbert of Ludowici, who received an Associate of Science in general education, and Nakita Simpson of Hinesville, who received a Master of Public Administration.

Term 1 graduates include students at Troy’s campuses in Dothan, Phenix City and Montgomery, Alabama, and Global Campus, which consists of teaching sites outside Alabama and online.

Georgia Southern summer president’s list

STATESBORO — Georgia Southern University recently recognized 175 students for excellence in academics on the 2015 summer semester president’s list. To be eligible for the president’s list, a student must have at least a 4.0 GPA and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.

The following local students made the president’s list: Meredith Eby of Midway, Mary Goff of Hinesville and Makaila Mueller of Hinesville.
