About 92 fifth graders at Taylors Creek Elementary participated in the second annual Wax Museum Night on Tuesday.
The students chose different famous people and spent a few days preparing, reading biographies and writing essays about the person they chose to represent as a wax figure.
To set the example, the faculty got into the action as well.
Dr. Kathy Moody, Kelly Edgington, Dwayne Herring and Kirsten Martin picked five members of the Space Shuttle Challenger crew and did a biographical presentation for the children the day before the museum was set to open.
Also to help set the tone and get the students inspired, the faculty also let them watch the recent Ben Stiller movie “A Night at the Museum,” in which Stiller plays a night watchman at a museum where the displays come to life when the museum closes.
The students picked a variety of former and current famous people from the political realm to sports. Wax figures representing Pocahontas, Sarah Ferguson, Bo Jackson, Robert E. Lee, Duke Ellington, Leonardo DaVinci, Rosa Parks, Clara Barton, Queen Isabella, Condeleeza Rice and more were frozen in time until activated by a special card.
Once activated the figures would come alive and give a brief biography of who they were, what they did, how they lived and when they died.
Hundreds of family and friends walked through the museum that extended from the cafeteria down the hall and into the gym.
School staff said the event was fun, creative and the children had an opportunity to learn about the people they studied, all of which influenced society in some fashion.
