Hinesville Mayor Jim Thomas gave five Youth ChalleNGe Academy cadets their oath of office as student council officers on Feb. 26. Thomas participated in the family day ceremony that allows cadets to show their family, friends and mentors the difference YCA has made in their lives.
A crowd of approximately 750 gathered to applaud the five cadets as they ran out of formation to accept their positions as officers and take their oaths.
“This is a great example of the support we have from the local government,” YCA Deputy Director Dr. Roger Lotson told the crowd as he introduced Thomas.
Before administering the oaths of office, the mayor encouraged the students to take advantage of the opportunities YCA offers.
“It is vitally important we show support for these cadets because they are part of our community,” Thomas said. “We must do our part to support these young people as they learn leadership, management and discipline skills that they can use for the rest of their lives.”
The officers are:
• President Robert Jubito (B2)
• Vice President Antoine Kelley (B2)
• Secretary Maicheira Slaughter (A1)
• Treasurer Ridge Shirley (B4)
• Sgt. at Arms Benjamin Frazier (B3)
