A man thought to have drowned this morning at the Sunbury boat landing was found alive and in good health late this morning.

Authorities believe he was hiding in the marshes in an area near the old shrimp dock restaurant.

According to  Liberty County Public Safety Director Mike Hodges, a man was reported to have jumped into the water at Sunbury boat landing sometime after 7 a.m.  Hodges said a call came into the 911 Center from a woman who told the operator a man fearing for his life plunged into the water and was not seen afterwards.

Eastern District Fire Chief Joe Martin and a crew searched for the man whose name has not been released.

The Courier will follow this story as it develops.
