An extreme heat warning is in effect until 8 p.m. tonight and will be in effect from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected with heat index values up to 112. Heat index values could reach 113 Saturday.
Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
For the extreme heat warning, the highest heat index values are expected from noon through 5 p.m. today. Additionally, isolated showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon could provide relief in some areas.
Precautionary actions
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
