During the annual Department of Georgia’s American Legion Family Convention held June 27 in Duluth, the members of The Detachment of Georgia, Sons of the American Legion, elected Dennis P. Fitzgerald as their detachment commander for the 2026-27 term of office.
Commander Fitzgerald will lead the 97 SAL squadrons located throughout Georgia during this time. His eligibility for membership in the SAL arose from his father, Vincent P Fitzgerald, who served during World War II and the Korean War. Dennis is a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam and other locations during his time in service.
Commander Fitzgerald’s motto during his term is “Duty, Honor and Country,” and his commander’s project is raising funds for the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation and COTA, the Children’s Organ Transplant Association. Commander Fitzgerald has served as the commander of SAL Squadron 321, and the 1st District SAL and Post 321 commander.
