According to a press release from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office a Florida man was arrested just after 8 a.m. May 5, after attempting to elude police.
LCSO Deputy Lt. Anthony Brown reported that he attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a green Honda Accord on Georgia State Hwy. 119, near mile marker 8. The Deputy reported the driver, later identified as Ashton Barclay, from Florida, failed to maintain his lane and was driving in a reckless manner.
Barclay failed to comply with the traffic stop sending deputies on a high speed pursuit traveling at a high rate of speed, allegedly exceeding 100 miles per hour, and forcing several other vehicles off the roadway. The Georgia State Patrol joined the chase, ending the pursuit with a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver on U.S. Hwy. 17 just outside of Midway.
It was reported that Barclay’s actions caused damage to several properties in the Midway area to include a fence and damage to a billboard.
He was taken into custody without incident.
