Update: According to Special Agent Stewart Cottingham, Fox was arrested by the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task force Dec. 22 while exiting a local business in Bluffton, SC. She was detained without incident before being picked up on an outstanding warrant in Liberty County.

Former Coastal Courier General Manager Kathryn Fox was arrested and is being held at the Liberty County Jail as of Dec. 26.

Fox was placed on administrative leave in November of 2017. She was fired Dec. 7, 2017 after an internal audit discovered she allegedly embezzled funds from the company.

According to a Hinesville Police Department incident report, it was alleged that Fox stole more than $33,000 from the newspaper over a 10-month period from February to November 2017.

Representatives of Morris Newspaper Corporation, the Courier’s parent company, were in the process of conducting an internal audit to determine whether the theft had occurred for a longer period of time and for a higher amount. The company reported the alleged theft on Jan. 16, 2018.

Fox began working for the Courier in 1999 and was promoted to general manager in 2014.

According to the Liberty County Jail web-site Fox is charged with Theft by conversion – felony.
