The Hinesville Housing Authority, in partnership with National Housing Compliance (NHC), launched a new school outreach initiative for the 2023-24 school year.

The first event was a school supply drive for Joseph Martin Elementary School teachers and Button Gwinnett Elementary School teachers on Aug. 16. The second event was a supply donation to the Liberty County Boys and Girls Club on Aug. 28.

The initiative is an expansion of the housing authority’s community outreach programs. The Hinesville Housing Authority Board of Commissioners chose to include outreach initiatives focused on teachers and other nonprofits who support students in the Liberty County School System, especially those that serve Hinesville Housing Authority residents.

Funding for the supply drive was donated by the National Housing Compliance Inc.

“We have done several programming for students in the past, but this is a great opportunity to support teachers as they support students,” said Melanie C. Thompson, CEO of the Hinesville Housing Authority. “It has been very rewarding and enlightening to engage with the schools. They need the support, and we want the teachers to know that they are supported, valued and appreciated by their local housing authority.”

Based on the success of the recent outreach activities, the Hinesville Housing Authority is planning additional events. This fall, they will host a school uniform and shoe drive for Button Gwinnett Elementary in Hinesville. The organization also plans to host another supply drive for Liberty County teachers in the spring.
