Hunter Army Airfield to evacuate in advance of Hurricane Dorian

UPDATE:  Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield leadership is responding to the mandatory evacuation order today in advance of Hurricane Dorian’s arrival.   “We are committed to the safety of our service members and their families,” said Lt. Col. Dave Escobar, Hunter Army Airfield garrison commander.   

 

Hunter’s Families who live on post are directed to evacuate and follow the guidance of local and state officials. If you live in a mandatory evacuation zone, you must follow the evacuation mandates made by local and state officials. 

 

Single service members residing on Hunter are advised to evacuate to Fort Gordon. Hunter Army Airfield is providing buses to transport service members who do not wish to travel in their privately-owned vehicles. Soldiers on buses will receive lodging at Fort Gordon. 

 

Evacuees will see increased traffic congestion on major roadways. Plan your evacuation accordingly.   

 

Most of the aircraft assigned to Hunter’s units evacuated to other military installations inland today. The others will depart tomorrow. Some aircraft have been secured in hangars here. 

 

The Hunter commissary will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Hunter Post Exchange 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Hunter Army Community Service office will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for financial assistance only. Tuttle Army Health Clinic will be closed tomorrow, however, the pharmacy will be open 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Fort Stewart’s Winn Army Community Hospital in-patient pharmacy and emergency room will stay open 24-7. 

 

Defense Health Agency announced TRICARE beneficiaries in the 12 Coastal Georgia counties under a state of emergency are eligible for emergency prescription refills until Sept. 9 if needed due to Hurricane Dorian. 

 

For those on TRICARE Prime, this allows beneficiaries to receive refills without a referral from their primary care manager. 

 

In order to obtain medication, beneficiaries should take their prescription bottle to any TRICARE retail network pharmacy. 

 

  

An Emergency Family Assistance Center has been established on Hunter in Bldg. 1286. The EFAC’s phone number is 912-315-6816. The EFAC is providing financial assistance. 

 

If you live in housing on Hunter Army Airfield, please empty the contents of your refrigerator and freezer prior to evacuating. 

 

All service members need to contact their chain of command for guidance on release procedures.  

 

At this time, the senior commander has signed orders allowing active duty Soldiers and Department of the Army Civilians displaced by mandatory evacuations to possible monetary reimbursement. Save all receipts.  

 

Service members and families assigned to Hunter Army Airfield must do the following actions immediately.  

 

At a minimum:     * Make sure outdoor items are secured or stored inside  * Have emergency supplies for two to three days   * Have a full tank of gas   * Know your route - listen to radio/television/Internet to find out about road closures   * Grab a cell phone charger, portable radio, and extra batteries   * Get cash - stores may not be able to accept checks or credit cards after the storm   * Bring insurance information and other important papers   * Let your extended family members know your plan * Log onto the ADPAAS link at https://adpaas.army.mil to make sure your information is updated. 

 

This link will work on your cell phone. If you're unable to access ADPAAS, then contact your unit chain of command, or the unit's ADPAAS Command Officer Representative (COR).  This is your S1/G1 office. 

 

The installation community is encouraged to download the Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield app for Android and iOS to keep up-to-date on the hurricane.  

 



(Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.) - Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield and the 3rd Infantry Division leadership has ordered a mandatory evacuation of Hunter Army Airfield effective at noon today to prepare for Hurricane Dorian.

As of 11 a.m. today, there is an increasing likelihood of strong winds and dangerous storm surge along the coast of Georgia later this week.

"In consideration for the safety of our Soldiers, Families, and Department of Defense employees and in coordination with state and local officials, all Soldiers, Families, and Department of Defense Civilians assigned to Hunter Army-Airfield and residing within the designated mandatory evacuation zones will evacuate no later than noon Wednesday," said Maj. Gen. Tony Aguto, the 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield commander. "We will continue to monitor the storm and update you as the situation develops with Hurricane Dorian."

Soldiers and Families who live in a mandatory evacuation zone must follow the guidance put out by their local county emergency managers.

Additionally, an Emergency Family Assistance Center has been established at Bldg. 1286.

Key and essential personnel will work as directed by their supervisors or chains of command.

All service members need to contact their chain of command for guidance on release procedures.

3rd Combat Aviation Brigade will evacuate its aviation assets to Fort Benning, Georgia.

Soldiers and Families assigned to Hunter Army Airfield must do the following actions immediately.

        * Have a full tank of gas
        * Know your route - listen to radio/television/Internet to find out about road closures
