Georgia's two U.S. senators, Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson, were on Fort Stewart Monday morning.
Maj. Gen. Tony Cucolo, commander of the post and the 3rd Infantry Division, said the lawmakers were looking at conditions on post, especially how soldiers live. Most of their time during a tour was inspecting married soldier housing and single soldiers barracks, and talking with the troops.
Spokesmen for the Republican lawmakers also said they were exploring how a decision to now station an additional brigade of troops here has affected the installation and the surrounding communities.
A story about the visit will be in Wednesday's Courier and subsequently on the Web. This is a video recording of the news conference that followed the tour and meetings with area officials. It lasts about 11 minutes.
