The 2018 proposed millage rate was set at the Oct. 25 mid-month Liberty County Board of Commissioners meeting. The LCBOC approved a millage rate for the county at 14.702, which is a .3 decrease from the 2017 tax year. For the city of Hinesville, the LCBOC approved the millage rate of 13.835, a 0.1 decrease from 2017.

The overall millage rate for incorporated Hinesville is 36.178, while the unincorporated Liberty County overall millage rate is 37.045. Chief Finance Officer Kim McGlothlin explained the decreased millage would amount to a $3 per year decrease in property tax on a $150,000 home with no exemptions for unincorporated cities. In Hinesville, it would be a dollar decrease.

After the commissioners approved the millage rates, they discussed the distribution of road funds. The board approved to divide SPLOST 6 funds equally between all seven districts, although District 1 Commissioner Marion Stevens was opposed.
