Liberty County High School linebacker Raekwon McMillan has been selected as the 2013 national high-school Butkus Award winner as the nation’s top linebacker.
The announcement was made Tuesday.
This season, McMillan, a 6-foot-2, 245-pound linebacker/running back, had 159 tackles, 107 solo, three forced fumbles and an interception. On offense, McMillan had 73 carries for 628 yards.
In a news release, the 51-person selection committee said, “One of the top college recruits in the country, McMillan has been a dominant performer at the high-school level, with the knockback power reminiscent of a young Dick Butkus. He possesses superb balance, striking power and toughness. He is regarded by his coaches, teammates and recruiters to possess equally strong character — the kind of person who understands the significance and responsibility that comes with being honored with the Butkus Award.”
