A man suspected of stealing a safe in September from Baconton Missionary Baptist Church in Allenhurst was arrested Tuesday without incident, according to LCSO Detective Julie Hibbeler.

Eric Coles was booked Tuesday morning after his image was captured by the church’s surveillance camera and posted on the Coastal Courier’s website and social media sites like Facebook.

According to Hibbeler, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office received a few anonymous tips once the images circulated, which led to Cole’s arrest.

He was charged with one count of burglary and his bond was set at $3,400.

“He was very cooperative,” Hibbeler said. “He even called the pastor (Herman Scott) apologizing and asked for forgiveness.”
