Hinesville man arrested after standoff

 A standoff between police and a man who barricaded himself and his mother in their South Maple Drive home Saturday night ended peacefully about an hour after it began.

 Authorities said Derrek Ritchie, 58, is charged with reckless conduct and is in the Liberty County Jail.

 

The hour-long incident ended when Ritchie obeyed instructions from officers of the Hinesville Police Department came out of the home on the 300 block of South Maple Drive.

Ritchie was taken to Winn Army Community Hospital on Fort Stewart for observation. No injuries were reported.

 

According to Hinesville Police Detective Kyle Larimore, Ritchie barricaded himself in the house and fired several shots with a handgun. 

Nearly a dozen patrol cars lined the streets near the house as officers positioned themselves around the watched and asked neighbors to stay inside their homes till the situation was resolved.
