Ludowici City Councilman, A.A. "Zip" Billings, 91, died Tuesday night in Savannah.
According to Ludowici City Clerk Tara Manning, Billings, a long-time city councilman, died from congestive heart failure. Manning said Billings had been admitted into Memorial University Medical Center on Saturday. Manning said that Billings had served on the council since 2000, and had been a member prior to that after a lapse in service.
Mayor Myrtice Warren said Billings had lived in Ludowici for most of his life and had served faithfully on the council.
"Zip worked good with the city council," she said. "He always did what he thought was best and served the city for a long time. Before he was elected again in 2000, he had been on the council several years, when he got back on this last time, he was getting up there in age, but he still always tried to do a good job and was a faithful servant to Ludowici."
