Man arrested in childs death
Robert Gonzales
Gonzales

Hinesville police detectives arrested a Fort Stewart soldier Wednesday afternoon in connection with the death of a toddler.
Detective Doug Snider said Robert Gonzales, 28, was arrested at his home on Honey Creek Lane without incident. Gonzales has been charged with murder in the death of Samuel Carroll, 3.
Samuel, according to Snider, was in Gonzales’ care at his Honey Creek home while the child’s mother was at work Feb. 27. Snider said Gonzales brought the child to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville that evening. He later was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah with a head injury.
Samuel was put on life support for several days and pronounced dead at noon March 3.
Snider said an autopsy was conducted at the GBI crime lab in Savannah where it was determined the child suffered blunt force trauma to the head and died as a result of the injury. Authorities expect Gonzales will soon make his first appearance before a judge.
