The body of an apparent suicide victim was found hanging from a tree, about 19 feet above the ground, around 3:30 p.m. Monday behind the parking lot of Islands Real Estate in Midway.

Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Detective Chris Reed said an employee from the real-estate office saw the man, who, according to identification found on him, was in his late 40s and lived in Florida. He’d been driving a pickup truck with Florida tags, which was found not far from the tree. The man’s identity has not been released.

Reed said it took the Midway and Eastern District Fire Departments about two hours to remove the body using a ladder truck.

Although no foul play is suspected and authorities didn’t notice anything suspicious about the scene, the body will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab in Savannah, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted Tuesday morning, according to Reed.
