On Friday the Long County High School football team will be hitting the road again as they take on Jeff Davis County in Hazlehurst.
Last week the Blue Tide beat Islands High School 22-12 in a game that wasn’t as close as the score seemed. The Long County defense and special teams dominated the game against the Sharks forcing two turnovers and two blocked punts which resulted in two of the Blue Tide touchdowns.

If Long County is going to go to win this week against the Yellow Jackets, the defense will once again have to play well, but the offense will also have to move the chains and put some first downs together.
According to MaxPreps.com last week the Blue Tide offense only put up 81 yards in the air and 26 yards on the ground. The two bright spots on the Long County offense were running back Eric Crawford who had 40 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, and wide receiver Jack Lauver who had 6 receptions for 57 yards. On the defensive side of the ball the Blue Tide had a total of 69 tackles against Islands with Jamin Davis notching 15 and Gerald Williams 11.

For Jeff Davis last week was a night that they would like to forget having fell 43-14 to Atkinson County. The Yellow Jackets will be looking to put that loss behind them at the expense of the Blue Tide team. But even though Jeff Davis will be hoping to vanquish Long County looking at past history that will not be an easy task. The Blue Tide have a 5-3 edge in the series against the Yellow Jackets, and last year when the two teams played Long County won that game 20-17. Though Long County would seem to go into Friday’s game as the favorite, according to MaxPreps.com the Yellow Jackets are rated ten spots higher in the state rankings for all high school football teams than the Blue Tide.

The game is also in Hazlehurst, so Jeff Davis will have the home field advantage.
If Long County is going to go to 2-0 they will have to play better this week than they did last week. Kickoff for the game is at 7:30. Pick up a Sunday paper to find out who won the game.
