Tybee hosting Mardi Gras festival

TYBEE ISLAND — The fourth annual Mardi Gras Tybee Festival is set for Feb. 17-18.

On Feb. 17, the masquerade ball will kick off the weekend festivities. There will be live music from accordion player Dwight “Black Cat” Carrier from 8-11 p.m. at Fannies on the Beach, 1613 Strand Ave. The ball will also feature guest MC Layla Fox, a king and queen costume contest and Krewe Cup contest. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door and are available online at www.mardigrastybee.com.

The Mardi Gras Street Party, which is open to the public, will be from noon-6 p.m. on Feb. 18. at Tybrisa Street and Strand Avenue. Dixieland jazz band The Dawgs of Dixie will perform from noon-3p.m. and Carrier will perform from 3-6 p.m.

Vendors will also be set up on-site. The parade will start at 2 p.m. at Hwy. 80 and Second Avenue and head south down Butler Avenue, turning left on Tybrisa Street.
