The Veterans Memorial Walk board of directors recently recognized the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority staff for the effort and time they have devoted to the project during the past two years.

The HDDA has partnered with the all-volunteer board on a number of initiatives, events, fundraising efforts and promotional campaigns to help speed the construction of the monument at Bryant Commons, a downtown Hinesville park.

At the VMW board’s June 21 meeting, co-Chairman George Holtzman presented certificates to HDDA Executive Director Michelle Ricketson, Main Street program coordinator Hollie Barnidge and program assistant Lisa Waye.

“We enjoy working with the HDDA staff and are grateful for all the time, energy and ideas they funnel into the Veterans Memorial Walk project,” Holtzman said. “They routinely and enthusiastically offer their assistance to ensure the success of this tribute and are clearly committed to the betterment of the community.”

The Veterans Memorial Walk, estimated to be completed in November 2017, will include a tree-lined, granite-paver path that encircles a pond. A monument dedicated to prisoners of war and those missing in action will be centered in the pond. Tributes to each military branch will adorn the path, as will benches and an informational kiosk. Additionally, the American flag and each service branch’s flag will greet visitors at the walk’s entrance.
