The city of Walthourville made a street-name change Sept. 1 to honor former Georgia governor Ellis Arnall.
Arnold Drive was changed to Arnall Drive to honor Arnall, who was governor from 1943-47. The street originally was to be named Arnall, but the misspelling went uncorrected since the street was named during Walthourville’s incorporation in 1974. State Rep. Al Williams, D-Midway, recently brought the mistake to the attention of city officials.
“Thirty-eight years later, the city of Walthourville makes a wrong a right,” Williams said. “Mayor (Daisy) Pray and council are to be commended for working to correct this mistake.”
