Hinesville announced Thursday that its Water Pollution Control Plant located on Ft. Stewart experienced a release of 5.65 million gallons of partially treated wastewater into Taylors Creek as a result of equipment failure Wednesday.

According to a press release issued by the city, operations staff discovered the wastewater release and acted quickly to resolve the malfunction. The plant is now back in compliance and awaiting parts to complete the repairs.

The statement said contingency-response procedures were followed and the appropriate regulatory agencies were notified.

The city doesn’t anticipate any adverse public-health impacts as a result of this incident.

This is the same plant that released 5.47 million gallons of partially treated wastewater into Taylors Creek after an equipment failure last week.
