Long moving ahead with animal control

The Long County Commission is moving forward with a county animal control facility. Chairman Bobby Walker said he is working with Commissioner Wallace Shaw to acquire land for the site, in an attempt to save the county money.
Chairman Bobby Walker said, “Animal control has been a problem in Long County for many years and has to be addressed as soon as possible.”
Although commissioners say they are dedicated to seeing this project through, this year’s limited budget has presented challenges. The newly formed animal control committee will coordinate several fundraisers during the next few months and will be accepting donations.
“I think we have a very good committee that has started working together and making great progress,” Walker said.
The next two animal control committee meetings will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18,  and at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the commissioners chambers at the Long County Courthouse. The public is invited.
