Anglers Edge shooting may have resulted from love triangle
Anglers Edge shooting
Liberty County Sheriff's Office deputies cordon off an area where a man was shot and killed following an apparent altercation in eastern Liberty County.

A shooting Saturday night in east Liberty County appears to have been the result of a love triangle.

According to Major Bill Kirkendall of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting may have been the result of a love triangle concerning a 42-year-old woman who resided on Anglers Edge, near Lake Pomona, and two men.

Kirkendall said a 49-year-old Savannah man, identified as Markel Washington, was waiting on his motorcycle near an Anglers Edge residence for a woman he was taking out for the evening. While the woman was walking to meet Washington, around 5 p.m., Jebbar Watson, 54, of Pooler showed up in the neighborhood and spotted Washington sitting on the motorcycle.

Watson stopped his vehicle and exchanged words with Washington. During the verbal altercation, Watson is alleged to have pulled out a hand gun and fired at Washington, who then pulled out a weapon and returned fire, striking Watson several times. Washington was not injured.

Deputies found Watson on the ground and applied a tourniquet. He was transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Kirkendall said Watson was the estranged boyfriend of the woman, and the men had minor incidents in the past.

Washington was detained and later released. Kirkendall said, “there are currently no charges being pursued, but the investigation continues.”

Watson’s body was taken to the GBI crime lab in Pooler, where an autopsy will be conducted.
