3rd ID loses another soldier in Iraq

The Department of Defense announced Friday the death of a 3rd Infantry Division soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Melvin L. Henley Jr., 26, of Jackson, Miss., died at Camp Striker in Baghdad on Nov. 21 of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. He was assigned the division's 603rd Aviation Support Battalion, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade on Fort Stewart.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Based on a Nov. 23 DoD casualty report, the number of U.S. troops who have died in Iraq now totals 3,872, including 715 non-combat related deaths.

According to icasualties.org, an independent website tracking troop deaths during OIF, 32 American soldiers have died so far in the month of November.
