ATLANTA — House Bill 821, the “Military Spouses and Veterans Licensure Act,” sponsored by Rep. Al Williams, D-Midway, unanimously passed the Senate Chamber Thursday afternoon with a 53-0 vote.

This bill, co-sponsored by Rep. Gloria Frazier, D-Hephzibah, would require all state licensure boards to adopt and implement a process by which military spouses and transitioning service members moving to Georgia from out of state may qualify for temporary occupational licenses, licenses by endorsement, or expedited licenses to facilitate their entry into Georgia’s workforce.

“Oftentimes, our transitioning service members and their spouses struggle to find employment in Georgia. Removing the difficult requirements in obtaining a professional license they already hold in another state is crucial in ensuring economic security for our state,” Williams said. “I am encouraged by the support this bill received from my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and look forward to the Governor signing it in to law.”

HB 821 will go to the Governor for consideration.
