Accused rapist Pvt. Daniel Brazelton was taken from Volusia County, Fla., back to Los Angeles County, Calif., last week by investigators with the Special Victims Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, according to a LACSD news release.
Brazelton, 20, of the 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, was apprehended Feb. 18 at a Holly Hill, Fla., hotel by the Daytona Beach Police Department, according to a previous news release from Fort Stewart public affairs. Brazelton is wanted for the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old Los Angeles County girl.
Brazelton’s escape Feb. 11 from a van on Airport Road prompted a nationwide manhunt. The soldier reportedly exited the van and ran to a treeline while he was being returned to the Liberty County jail following a medical appointment on Fort Stewart.
On March 10, Brazelton was booked into the station jail at the South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station, and on March 12, he was transferred to the Los Angeles County jail.
Brazelton’s bail is set at $325,000 and his next court appearance is scheduled for Lancaster Court on March 23, according to the LACSD.
