HQ soldiers will deploy in the fall

The 3rd Infantry Division’s Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion has been notified that it will deploy late this fall.

A news release from Fort Stewart late Thursday afternoon said the battalion’s 700 troops will head to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn. The notification came from the Department of the Army and, as of now, does not include any of the 3rd ID’s larger combat brigades, according to the release.

It said the mission and location has not been assigned. It was not specific about which commanders will deploy, how long soldiers will be gone and how the mission meshes with a Dec. 31 deadline to have U.S. troops out of Iraq.

The release did say the DHHB has deployed to Iraq four times, the most recent ending in November.

“The many relationships formed with Iraqi military leaders, elected civilian officials, and the Iraqi people enhances their ability to complete whatever mission they are asked to accomplish,” the release said.
