AUGUSTA - A federal grand jury has indicted an ex-national guardsman on charges that he impersonated a soldier and convinced military officials to hand him high-tech equipment.
The grand jury on Tuesday indicted 34-year-old Anthony Todd Saxon on seven counts, including grand theft, theft from a licensed firearm dealer and being a felon in possession of explosives.
Saxon was arrested in June on the Fort Gordon Army post after military police found him with stun grenades, a land mine and a laser targeting sight.
Authorities say he told his wife and family he worked at the base and was to be deployed on a secretive mission to Iraq or Afghanistan. A judge has ordered Saxon to undergo a battery of psychiatric tests.
