Stewart soldier killed in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense announced Thursday the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Spc. Roberto A. Hernandez II, 21, of Far Rockaway, N.Y., died June 2 in Paktya, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his mounted patrol was attacked with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. He was assigned to the 549th Military Police Company, 385th Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade (Airborne), Fort Stewart.
