The Liberty County NAACP is holding a community mass meeting Monday night and inviting Liberty County’s commissioners to attend.
The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at Dorchester Academy in Midway. It is open to the public.
Liberty County NAACP President Graylan Quarterman said the called meeting is an attempt to discuss issues with county commissioners who “continue to deny the Association the opportunity to appear on the public agenda,” according to an invitation shared on social media and via email.
That invitation lists various “key issues,” for discussion, including what the NAACP claims is the county’s inactive ethics committee and citizens’ advisory board, it’s board appointment procedures and an upcoming vote on the special local option sales tax.
An attempt to reach Commission Chairman Donald Lovette for comment prior to the Courier’s early deadline holiday deadline was unsuccessful.
The Liberty County NAACP has called a handful of community mass meetings in recent years to discuss local issues.
