Obama stomps Clinton in Liberty
McCain outpolls rivals in local GOP

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama smothered competition in Liberty County Democratic presidential primary during Super Tuesday.
He had 74 percent of the 4,792 total Democratic votes cast, or 3,534 to New York Sen. Hillary Clinton’s 1,148 votes, which is 24 percent of the votes cast.
On the Republican side, Arizona Sen. John McCain received the most votes among the three front running candidates. He earned 967 votes, or 45 percent of the 2,158 cast in the GOP primary. Former governors Mike Huckabee got 598 votes, 28 percent, and Mitt Romney got 497, 23 percent.
Here is the break down of Liberty’s votes for all candidates on Tuesday’s ballots:

All told, the 6,950 votes cast in the county — 4,792 Democrat and 2,158 Republican — represented just under a 34 percent turnout of the 20,531 registered voters in the county.
