Tybee to host Turtle Trot in April

Tybee Island will host the eighth annual Turtle Trot 5K beach walk/run Saturday, April 18 to benefit the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. The trot officially kicks off coastal Georgia’s sea turtle nesting season, which runs from May through October.
The family friendly run/walk will include a visit by Scute, the Georgia Sea Turtle Center’s mascot, and the live release of a loggerhead sea turtle in front of the Tybee Island Marine Science Center after the race.
The event is open to the public, and participants can register online until 5 p.m. Thursday, April 26 by going to www.active.com/running/tybee-island-ga/tybee-turtle-trot-5k-2012. The cost is $20 for Tybee Island Marine Science Center members and $25 for non-members. On the day of the trot, registration begins at 7 a.m., and the walk/run begins at 8 a.m. The loggerhead sea turtle release is at 10 a.m.
The Tybee Island Marine Science Center is at 1510 Strand Ave., next to the Tybee Pier and Pavilion.
