A woman was killed early Thursday morning in Hinesville while crossing a heavily traveled intersection.

According to Hinesville Police Department Assistant Chief Terranova Smith, the woman was crossing East Oglethorpe Highway at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive, heading in the direction of Fraser Drive, shortly before 7 a.m.

The woman was transported by ambulance to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville where she was pronounced deceased around 7:30 a.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
