Talmadge Road was blocked in both directions Tuesday afternoon when a flatbed truck lost its load as the driver swerved to avoid hitting a car.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Dunlevie and Talmadge roads.
Walthourville Police Department Lt. Wade Long said the truck driver, who was not identified, was headed southeast on Talmadge, towing a frontend loader.
Long said a vehicle crossing Talmadge at Dunlevie failed to yield the right-of-way and entered the intersection.
The lieutenant said the truck driver swerved to avoid hitting the car, causing the frontend loader he was towing to shift. The shift and the truck’s momentum caused the machinery to fall off the towing vehicle and tip over into the northwest lane of traffic.
The frontend loader rested on the road and shoulder for about an hour until large tow trucks and workers from Lanson Towing, ATS Towing and Hodges Towing were able to clear it and open the road to traffic.
No one was injured.
