A man has been arrested in connection with a June 20 fire that destroyed R&J Produce store on E. G. Miles Parkway, according to Hinesville police Detective, Jeff Davis.

Davis said Kerias L. McCray, 20, was arrested Friday at a home in Cypress Bend Mobile Home Park, not far from the produce store. McCray had been staying with family and was arrested without incident, Davis said.

He said a joint investigation by the Hinesville Fire Department Lt. Jerry Heath and Davis led to the arrest.

Hinesville FD spokesman Robert Kitchings said in a telephone interview Friday that evidence at the scene indicating the fire was not an accident.

Without providing details, Kitchings said, “Investigators from the fire and police departments spent three weeks sifting through the debris, till we were able to determine the origin of the fire which led to the suspect’s arrest.”

McCray was charged with prowling and arson. He is in the Liberty county jail, awaiting bond.
