East-end residents blocked from main access

At least one person was injured and has been flown by helicopter ambulance to a burn center in Augusta from a house fire in east Liberty County Friday morning.
The wood frame house is on Islands Highway, at its intersection with Hannah June Road. It reportedly was gutted.
Residents east of the site are being turned back if they try to drive the highway out of the area. One resident said she was told firetrucks and other emergency vehicles block the road. They're stuck if they don't know the back roads out.
The fire was called in just after 9 a.m. and firefighters from Eastern District, Midway and Riceboro responded.
There will be more about the fire here later and in Sunday's Coastal Courier.
