The man killed in Sundays ATV accident in Walthourville has been identified as Dwayne Cornell Chapman, 30 of Hinesville.

Chapman, according to GSP Trooper David Harris, was riding the ATV on Hillary Lane around 6:43 p.m. He was driving south and trying to negotiate a curve when he lost control and hit a tree on the shoulder.

Harris said Chapman was not wearing a helmet at the time. He was thrown from the vehicle and sustained trauma to his head. Medical personnel attempted to revive him using CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene around 7:20 p.m.

He had been attending an family event at a park near where the accident took place, Harris said Chapman's mother was on scene when he died.

His body was taken to Savannah Monday morning for autopsy.
