Incident occured Saturday morning in Jesup
Crime scene tape

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating what appears to be an aggravated assault and suicide that occurred sometime Saturday morning at a home on the 300 block of Springs Grove Road near Jesup.

Detective Brandon Rozier said events unfolded shortly before 9 a.m. when a man driving on Spring Grove Road found Jodie Lacey Lane, 34, lying in the ditch. When the motorist stopped, he discovered Lane was bleeding from several stab wounds. The man called 911 and when deputies arrived to investigate, they found Lane was not far from the residence she shared with Earl Clifton Manning, 49. When deputies cleared the residence, they found Manning had hung himself in his bedroom.

Lane was flown to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where she is listed in serious but stable condition.

It has not been determined exactly what time the incident took place. Rozier said they hope to interview Lane when she is able to speak.
