A judged refused during a hearing Monday to reduce bond on a Midway man who allegedly fatally shot his mother March 3 as they were driving near the Fleming Short Stop.

Nicholas Bacon is accused of killing his mother, Montez Bacon, as they were returning from a trip to Savannah.

Bacon was initially denied bond. During a hearing in April, Bacon was again denied bond. He was brought before Liberty County Superior Court Judge Glen Cheney in June and bond was set at $250,000 cash or double that value of property.

During Monday’s hearing, Bacon’s lawyer Brandon Clark requested bond be reduced. Cheney denied the request.

Multiple charges after checkpoint dodge
Long County Sheriff deputies recently stopped a vehicle after witnessing a suspicious maneuver, leading to the arrest of a Hinesville man was already on felony probation.

The deputies, Sgt. Jamie Jeffers, Aaron Combs, Hagen Goode and Ryan Harrison were conducting a checkpoint on Elim Church Road near Lee Place Road at 11:10 p.m. July 29.

Combs said he saw a vehicle approaching, but about a half mile before the checkpoint, the vehicle pulled off the road and began to back up.

Combs caught up to the car to investigate the suspicious maneuver and driving.

The driver, Dalin Lee Ainsworth, 20, was arrested and charged with improper backing, improper U-turn and driving without a valid license. During the investigation it was also alleged that the vehicle was stolen. Ainsworth was also charged with theft by receiving (motor vehicle). He is on felony probation. Bond was denied.
