A Bryan County man was shot to death early
Tuesday morning on Daniel Siding Road.

William Haymans, 69, was found dead by Bryan County Sheriff’s deputies outside a home on the 1800 block of Daniel Siding Road, according to Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith.

Smith said Haymans apparently had driven up to a home to mow the grass between 7:30-8 a.m. when he was shot at least twice with a shotgun.

Since then, authorities have named Richard Burton as a person of interest. Walthourville police attempted to stop Burton for driving erratically, and he then allegedly led Liberty County deputies and Georgia State Patrol troopers on a chase Tuesday morning before surrendering in Long County.

Burton has not yet been charged, Smith said.

The case is under investigation by the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department and Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
