An elderly disabled veteran who had just placed his order at Captain D's drive-thru in Hinesville struck the building Monday evening, closing the eatery temporarily, according to Hinesville Traffic Accident Investigator Richard Boucher.

The 73-year-old man, who has a prosthetic right leg, was rounding the corner after ordering and accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. His Dodge Caravan clipped the rear of the building, inches from where the main gas box is located.

The man was not injured; however, the front of his van was heavily damage and the vehicle was towed away.

Firefighters detected gas leaking from the gas box and inside the restaurant, so they closed it until an Atlanta Gas Light employee could determine the source of the leak and repair it.

The elderly man’s “catfish feast” order later was filled by a restaurant employee.
