Accident responders investigate the scene where a Savannah-bound Wall Timber truck overturned while making a left turn from Highway 196 onto Highway 17 at 5:26 p.m. Monday.
The driver, Randy Shoemake, was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital and released hours later. The preliminary investigation indicated a shifting load caused the truck to overturn, responding state trooper Jerry Taylor said. He said he did not believe that speed was a factor. Wall Timber Supervisor C.C. Hughes said cleanup efforts lasted about four hours while a loader picked up the wood and the truck was towed away. Shoemake did not sustain any serious injuries.
