The man who was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Fort Stewart soldier’s spouse in Hinesville has been arrested, police said.

Tyler McGriff, 24, was wanted on a murder charge in connection with the July 14 slaying of Shaun Williams in Harbor Rain Apartments, 601 Saunders Ave. in Hinesville.

McGriff had been on the run since then. He was arrested without incident Friday by U.S. Marshals in Camden County.

Chris Reid, the Hinesville Police Department’s chief of detectives, was unable to provide details on the arrest. McGriff is expected to be returned to Hinesville this weekend.

McGriff is facing a murder charge, with additional charges pending, Reid said.

Reid earlier said that Williams had been picked up early July 14 from his Fort Stewart home by a friend who lives in Harbor Rain Apartments.

Shortly after 2 a.m., an altercation broke out between Williams and McGriff, leading to the shooting outside apartment H, Reid said.

When police arrived, they found Williams lying on the ground. He was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:08 a.m.
